Biggest Logistics Project for Quehenberger Logistics in Romania with an international Retailer.

After a project phase of over two years, Quehenberger Logistics implements the last steps for full utilisation of an integrated logistics concept for Brico Depôt in Romania.

Brico Depôt is a subsidiary of Kingfisher plc, a Do-It-Yourself company with British origins owning over 1,300 stores in 10 countries across Europe. As soon as King Fisher expanded their market position by taking over the Retailer Praktiker in Romania in 2017 they pursued the goal of ONE DC logistics structure with a trustful partner.

Brico Depôt became number two of the leading DIY-companies in Romania in 2019 with 35 stores. After Quehenberger Logistics has been working as a distribution partner for DIY companies in Romania over years, the full-service logistics provider was also selected as strategic partner for the warehouse management and distribution for Brico Depôt in Romania.

The added value: everything from a single source!
According to Kingfishers strategy ONE DC, the logistics provider can offer a highly flexible and rapidly growing solution at a central location in Romania. Quehenberger as a full service logistics provider is operating and performing their solutions in the CTP park A1-KM23 on a space of 130.000sqm which is situated 23km outside the city center of Bucharest (in direction Pitești).

In addition to this rare flexibility, the added value for the customer lies in the depth of service provided by Quehenberger. "Everything from a single source" means: Warehousing and transport are handled uniformly, whereby two different product lines of the DIY customer have to be served. Warehousing services include handling incoming goods, storage, picking and assembly on pallets. 35 DIY shops are currently supplied throughout Romania. Quehenberger can fall back on its existing retail network with ten locations in Romania.

An integrated contract logistics project. With flexibly growing resources in one location
This is one of the biggest logistic projects for Quehenberger Logistics europe-wide. Their Team is handling a 70.000 sqm warehouse close to Bucharest with 50.000 pallet places and 18.000 sqm for bulk pallets – which will be extended up to 83.000 sqm fulfillment space until end 2020. The Warehouse offers the opportunity for volume expansion in short and long term.

Inbound logistics: up to 30 trucks or containers per day, 65 employees are responsible for handling 2,000 picks or a volume of 1,000 cubic meters per day in a two-shift system.

Outbound logistics: up to 45 trucks, or 1500 pallets per day are transported to the 35 Brico Depôt stores all over Romania including a shop to shop service.

Key Susscess Factor: IT Solution
Quehenberger implemented their own WMS developed and supported locally in Romania with many customer individual features. They set up an SAP interface in cooperation with Kingfisher and Brico Depôt offering full transparency for Brico Depôt’s Management regarding the logistic processes and performance with customised KPI reports. Furthermore Quehenberger created a customer individual web-based platform for Brico Depôt’s customer and suppliers.

Furthermore Quehenberger Logistics is operating a highly efficient transport network all over Romania and above. And brings along specific knowledge for E-Commerce projects.

After more than 2 years of successful partnership between Quehenberger Romania and Brico Depôt Romania we are pleased that together with our customer we have managed to bring our collaboration to the next level. As part of the continuous improvement processes within the daily delivery to the 35 shops, every order is optimized to reduce vacancies in transport. Brico Depôt managed to keep up their business as far as possible whilst the corona crisis with ingenious services for their customers in Romania, for example: Click&Collect service, contact-free payment and their own customer app.

Contract logistics is one of the fastest growing business areas of Quehenberger Logistics. In 2019, the company recorded a total sales increase of 25 percent compared to the previous year in this sector, the managed storage space was expanded from 450,000 to 514,000 square meters in one year all over Europe.
