In-house AI team for sustainable process optimisation at Quehenberger
- Quehenberger's own AI department
- First successful project “automated AI order management”
- AI camera in truck trailer as a new innovation
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of almost every business. Of course, logistics is no exception. Quehenberger Logistics is committed to maximising performance through the sensible use of AI and careful development. This benefits everyone involved, the company's customers and employees.
In-house AI team to optimise business processes
At Quehenberger, AI is combined with the know-how of experts. The company has set up its own internal AI department, which focuses exclusively on integrating artificial intelligence into the company's B2B processes in a meaningful way. This is where practice meets advanced technology, and this initiative marks a significant step in the application of artificial intelligence in the logistics sector.
In addition to optimising internal processes, Quehenberger plans to develop innovative solutions for customers that respond to changing market conditions in real time. One goal of the AI team, for example, is to use data analysis and machine learning to improve the accuracy of predictions and decision-making processes. This enables costs to be reduced, response times to be shortened and resources to be utilised in a more targeted manner.
The department also promotes the further development of expertise in the field of AI in order to shape future-oriented logistics and fully exploit the possibilities of digitalisation in the entire business area.
“We are not trying to use AI wherever possible, but to integrate it in such a way that it creates added value in the respective area.”
First project with learnings implemented
The company has implemented its first, very successful AI project with intelligent, automated order management. Robert Köbrunner, Head of Q Direct at Quehenberger, explains: “After the initial implementation phase, we quickly realised that we shouldn't change too much at once. Such a change process must first and foremost involve the employees, otherwise such innovations will not be utilised effectively. With the first version of AI order entry, we wanted to achieve too much at once; new features with new screens outside the ‘familiar’ area were too much of a change. We took two steps back and combined existing masks with new features, which significantly increased user acceptance.”
Further innovative projects being realised
In addition to AI order recording, the ‘AI cameras’ project will be implemented at the beginning of January 2025. The AI cameras are installed in the trailers with a computer unit and support security-related issues such as theft, manipulation, etc. In addition, they can also precisely determine the free loading space in the vehicles in order to further optimise capacity utilisation. Avoiding empty space is an important factor for efficiency within the company as well as for environmental protection.
